Denver teachers carry placards as they wait to march after a rally in support of a strike outside the state Capitol last month. Denver school teachers are going on strike over how their base pay is calculated. One teacher’s sign claimed:
- Plumber pay = $45/hour
- Landscaper pay = $40/hour
- Teacher pay = $24/hour
- Child’s Education = priceless
2,700 teachers participated. The 3-day strike was affecting about 71,000 students across 147 schools. Yet, even students are marching. One student’s sign read:
“My teachers don’t get paid enough to put up with my [poop emoji].”
